EMMA is a lovingly restored barge of 28 metres in length and 4.6 metres wide — a
Klipper Aak of Belgian origin. She lived in the Paris region for her
first 95 years until she was lured south with the promise of sun and a
luxury fit out in 2001. She has been meticulously cared for ever since.
"The recently completed restoration gives us a delightful floating
home," says Liz. "All our personal treasures are on board, including
Uncle Edouard's original menus from the renown ocean liner "France".
The interior is spacious, bright and very comfortable for six guests .
If your group consists of more than six people, we would be happy to
arrange a tandem charter with another barge.
EMMA has three guest cabins that can be configured as either doubles or
twins. Beautiful handmade Irish quilts add that extra touch of luxury. Each guest cabin has its own private, ensuite bathroom with sink, toilet and a normal sized shower with
sliding doors. The bathrooms are beautifully tiled, each one being a
different colour to complement the colour of the cabin. Towels,
bathrobes hairdryers and toiletries from Occitane are
provided. Your hostess looks after your cabin on a daily basis.
EMMA is fully air-conditioned and has central heating for the cooler
evenings in Spring and Autumn.
The salon and dining room were designed for conviviality. You will find a fully equipped bar, (beers, soft drinks and spirits), a well stocked library, a selection of DVD’s (in case of a rainy day) and CD's, a station for your iPod and also a connection Internet for keeping in touch. Large picture windows make it very bright and airy.
The outside deck is where you will spend the most of your time, just watching the beautiful countryside float by. Emma has one of the biggest decks on the canal. There is ample room for dining, a covered area for shade on those hot sunny days, and an area for enjoying your aperitifs while dinner is being prepared. There is a canopy which covers the deck when Emma is moored up to give shade during your meal times on deck.
Bikes are at your disposal if you feel like a ride along the towpath or through the vinyards.
